A True Princess

What comes in your mind when you hear the word “Princess”? Looking at the Disney Princess movies, many of us, I suppose, would imagine an image of a lady living a life of luxury in a magnificent castle. However, the question is, how is it really like to be a princess? I remember listening to a song from Barbie’s Princess and the pauper singing “To be a princess is to know which spoon to use, to be a princess is a thousand pairs of shoes.” Well, I am not aware of how are the living styles of all the princess in each country are like, but I know about this one Princess whom change my perspective of how a princess should be, she is Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn the third child of their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri was born on the 2nd of April 1955. Her Royal Highness is a bright student in her school years as she was ranked number one in the National School Examination in both primary level and upper secondary. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri continues to pursue higher level education, graduated with a degree in the Faculty of arts, focusing mainly on Thai history, and oriental languages from Chulalongkorn University and continue with two master degree which is the Master of Arts in Oriental Epigraphy from Silpakorn University in 1978, and Master of Arts in Pali and Sanskrit from Chulalongkorn University in 1980. In 1987, Her Royal Majesty graduated with a PHD majoring in Doctor of Education program in Development Education, an interdisciplinary degree for her professional development at Srinakarinwirot University.

Like any of us, Her Royal Highness has much interest in many things such as travelling, music, sports, and poetry and writing proses. However, what Her Royal Highness truly embraces is her people. She is always keen on helping the needy and disadvantage children to obtain an education and other needs. With her PHD in education, Her Royal Highness uses it to help serve as a solid base for her subsequent involvement in community development activities. For an instant, thousands of students from the remote border areas are given nutritious meals and being taught of self-reliance in growing their own vegetables. Give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn taught the pupils to learn how grow their own food in order for them to learn how to be independent and in the same time contribute to the country’s agriculture extension.

Not only that, for the love of the children of Thailand,  Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn founded a foundation which helped the Bangkok children to receive attention and new homes as their shelter. Through the THAI RED CROSS, the refugee children are also taken care of with the lead of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Her Royal Highness also cares for the disabled, children, she builds special schools throughout Thailand for deaf and blind children. To the children of Thailand, Her Royal Highness is not a distant benefactor, she makes appraisals of their progress personally and visits the children, giving them the cheers and support every now and then.

Unlike many other ladies who like to keep themselves beautiful at all time, Her Royal Highness spurns ostentatious make up and clothing. She always wears a kind and loving smile which has won the hearts of her people in Thailand. Over the years, Her Royal Highness impressed her people with her royal duties and many have bestowed their money to support Her Royal Highness project in helping the disadvantage people of the country. As the money bestowed upon the Her Royal Highness is tremendous, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn decided to form a charity fund, which is known as “H.R.H Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Charity Fund” to grant money according to the objectives of the charity fund.

Living in our comfort zone, protected by our parents, how many of us actually notice the difficult life that the people of our society have been going through each day? Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn came out of her comfort zone and work hard over the years to help her people and develop the country into a better place for her people to live in. Well, she is the princess of her country and it might seem that she helps her people and developing her country is her duty, but is it not our duty as the citizen of our country to help the people of our society and contribute to our country’s development as well? Ask yourself, and think about it, isn’t Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn a role model for us to learn from? Isn’t Princess Maha Chakri Sirndhorn a true princess after all?

Last but not least, I believe Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is a true Princess to her people of Thailand. She created a charity fund to help her people and develop the country into a better place. Her Royal Highness’s smile and support bring hope to the people of Thailand!
